Saves electricity by not working July 23, 2010 Brian S. (New York City) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first I was disappointed that this unit didn't work - right out of the box - but then I quickly saw an upside in that it wouldn't be eating up electricity. I could be saving $50 or so, I imagine, by sitting in a sweltering room with a non-functioning air conditioner that can't be serviced, according to Frigidaire.
If I really bite the bullet and opt for a working air conditioner I can look forward succumbing to heat exhaustion while boxing this baby up and sending it back to the retailer at my expense.
Minimal Noise, energy efficient, what more do you want?! July 21, 2010 K. Mead (New York, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought a 6,000 BTU AC unit for my cozy studio apartment. As far as installation and weight, I cannot comment as I had it delivered and my super installed it for me.
But this baby works! I turned it on at night on the energy saver mode- basically it cools the room to a desired temp then goes on and off to maintain the temp- and left for the evening. The next morning, I walked into a deliciously cool but not freezing apartment!
As far as noise, I defy anyone to find a completely silent air conditioner. It's just not going to happen people! This one is much quieter than my old unit, which made it difficult to talk to people on the phone it was so loud! There is some noise, but nothing to really complain about.
I would buy this unit again and again! It was well worth the money!
Geat AC IF YOU DRILL A CONDENSATE HOLE July 20, 2010 BradWW The item fill up with a gallon of water which is NASTY and diry. So I drilled a 1\8 inch hole into the back corner of the unit. Now I have a great AC
Cools okay: but, so much noise. July 13, 2010 JKT in Maryland I bought this unit from Amazon a couple months ago to replace an old window unit in a medium sized bedroom. Installation was easy and a one-man job. The unit cools the room fine; and, aside from a loose (broken) air direction gizmo I had no real complaints at first. And while it still does a fine job cooling, it started getting noisier and noisier by the day. The air direction things (that do very poorly at directing the air flow in any certain direction) produce a lot of rattle as does the entire plastic front on the unit. I've had to start shimming little pieces of cardboard between the plastic front and metal case to keep the rattle to a tolerable level. And most recently when the compressor kicks on it makes a loud humming sound. So for use in a bedroom (or any room where loud noise is a problem) this unit was a poor choice. If I can put up with it through the rest of this summer, this unit will be headed for the trash in the fall.
As for the air ionizing feature on this unit - all I know is that the little indicator light says it's working. Who knows?
mine didn't cool at all July 7, 2010 mike 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mine didn't cool at all. I bought it in January. Had it installed in the hole in the wall. Then summer came. And the air it blew was not cool. You don't want to have to call Frigidaire. Don't ask. Eventually they'll maybe send me a refund check. But they said those units are unserviceable, so it doesn't look like I'm going to get a guy to come out and fix it. That means I have to have a guy come out and uninstall the old one and install the new one I'm going to have to go out and buy during a heat wave. Anyway, I hope I can find one that isn't a Frigidaire because its been a big hassle and now a big expense with no promise of any refund.
