Amazon.com Product Description

The Blast multitool's compact folded shape measures just 4 inches long.
The Full-Sized Blast Multitool from Leatherman

Loaded with the most requested features, the Leatherman Blast is ready for work. Longer blades mean easier slicing, sawing, filing and more, while the Zytel handle inserts provide a comfortable, reliable grip. And in this model, new designs for the handles and pliers help the Blast sustain more than double the squeezing load of the original PST. This multitool set includes all the handy, flip and fold-out tools you'd expect from an industry-leading brand -- all with 100-percent stainless steel construction, manufactured to the optimum grade hardness for each tool. The Blast boasts an open-tooth saw design that allows easy starting and cutting on the fly, plus long wire cutters for a lengthy reach. These pliers are especially designed for a large squeezing load, with a unique jaw design that adds durability.

Multitool Capabilities:

  • Needlenose pliers
  • Regular pliers
  • Wire cutters
  • Hard-wire cutters
  • Clip-point knife
  • Wood/metal file
  • Saw
  • Scissors
  • Large screwdriver
  • Small screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Small bit driver
  • Ruler (8 inch/19 cm)
  • Bottle/can opener
  • Wire stripper
  • Lanyard attachment
  • One double-ended bit

To expand your Blast's functionality, try adding the removable bit driver or the universal tool adapter (both sold separately)

The Blast comes with one double-ended screwdriving bit.
Key User Features

The Blast features all-locking blades. To release the interior blades, all you have to do is press the grooved portion of the push-lock button and carefully rotate the blade. The regular and hard-wire cutters are located within the plier jaws, and the straight knife blades may be easily sharpened using standard sharpening methods.

To access the interior features of the Blast, just grip the handles and swing them open. Each interior blade can be opened using the nail nicks, and so can the scissors. When the scissors are fully extended, they lock securely into place for safety and ease of use.

Optional Accessories (not included)

The Removable Bit Driver Accessory is sold separately, and makes a great addition to the Blast multitool. This removable bit driver works by installing right on top of the integrated Phillips screwdriver blade. You can also add the Universal Tool Adapter to your Blast arsenal. This adapter is a standard 1/4-inch hex drive that locks in three positions.

The Leatherman Tool Group and its History of Quality

In 1975, Leatherman Tool Group founder Tim Leatherman was inspired by leaky pipes and a cranky car on a budget trip to Europe -- and thus the idea for his first pocket survival tool was conceived. Since then, Leatherman has become an internationally recognized company with hundreds of employees and a wide variety of durable, versatile, stylish products. Created with bold designs and truly rugged construction, Leatherman products are a perfect addition for tool kits, emergency sets, and glove compartments everywhere.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic, usable multi-purpose tool!   August 19, 2010
M. Kowalski (Westerville, OH)
I received a Leatherman Blast as a Christmas gift from my in-laws several years ago. Most pocket-tools or Swiss-Army-Knife-type products are nice to look at, but not functional in the real world. Not the Leatherman Blast. I use mine several times a week, sometimes daily. The tools are not only solid, but very usable in everyday situations. The bits lock (awesome improvement over the original Leatherman tool) and I tend to use the knife, file, saw, and screwdrivers the most. Be careful with the knife, though--it's SUPER sharp. I know, because I was using one without giving it my full attention while on a ladder and ended up needing a few stitches in one of my fingers. *OUCH* But that wasn't the Leatherman's fault... The Blast itself feels extremely solid and well-made. The warranty is excellent; I actually broke a flat-head screwdriver bit on mine through mis-use (I was using it to pry something) and it snapped in half. No problem. Go to Leatherman's site, print out a form, fill it out and send it to them. I got mine back the next week good as new. Leatherman is a company that truly makes GREAT tools that WORK. I often use my Leatherman INSTEAD of other tools: 2 very usable flat-head screwdrivers, a nice Philip's screwdriver, and an AWESOME saw. I've sawed pieces of wood at work, PVC pipe in my basement, even a small tree trunk in my yard. The thing WORKS! Highly recommended--and very nice quality. A true MacGyver tool--and something you'd want to have with you if stuck on a desert island.

5 out of 5 stars Not just a survival tool   August 16, 2010
Jc Mahne
This is not just a survival tool, it's a MAIN tool.

I already used it for:
Tightening screws on glasses
Trimming and filing finger nails, and ingrown toe nails.
Sawing off Moth Eater vine.
Sawing cut outs in a branch so the bird feeder can hang on it.
Fitting a new cd rom drive to the computer
Filing nail points to a sharp end, to prevent wood splitting.
Fixing the kitchen cupboard doors.
Adusting the hot ventilator of the Weber barbecue with the pliers
Adjusting bent bracket for toilet seat
Cutting my guitar strings to length
Gripping bolt nuts to unscrew the bolt
Cutting and trimming insulated wire
Peeling oranges

and so it goes on and on...

If you are not going to wear it on your belt at all times, then don't buy one. This is the main point of the Blast, it's for everyday use. Only place I don't wear it, is in the shower, heh.

Leatherman told me that the locks have been improved and do not break any more(bought mine in 2010).I have not yet broken one.
The holster is good leather made in mexico. The bottom rivets stand a bit proud on the inside, so I flattened them slightly. The tool slides in easier now. It's not essential at all to do this, as it works fine as it is.

Forget about the Wave, the screwdrivers are too short to get proper access to tight screw locations.
Also forget about the cheap chinese imitation leatherman. I had one that closed it's blade on my fingers. Safety first folks.....

The only tool I miss on it,is an awl, but my Swiss Army knife has one.No multitool has everything though, and this is a very minor defect.

The pliers and tools are excellent quality. All the engineering is done with precision, all the tools fit really well.

It's the best value for money multitool, for sure.
A lifetime warranty too.

5 out of 5 stars another awesome tool   June 30, 2010
JB (MI, USA)
This is the second Leatherman I have handled, and it is just as god as the first (earlier model). I have had a lot of junk multi-tools over the years but not a single one can even come close to comparing to the quality that Leatherman has shown.

This model might be a tad large for everyday carrying with the holster but still very durable and has potential for daily usage. If you're looking for a smaller model, you might want to check out one of the Juice ones (they're also a bit cheaper).

5 out of 5, will take on just about any job and will last a LONG time

5 out of 5 stars Got one, got another one for my dad!   June 14, 2010
Ljubov Wold
My son is a Boy Scout and he bought his Leatherman Blast first for himself and now we bought it for his dad for Father's Day. He is using this multitool all the time. It really comes handy in many occasions. He seems to prefer the full size to a smaller unit. It gives him better grip and stronger feeling.

This product is handy for just about anything. My husband loves it and carries it with him wherever he goes.
