Great Dog Fountain August 30, 2010 Michael J. Schrock Sr. I bought this fountain for my 2 dogs but my cat loves it! Fountain is very easy to use. I have refilled it a few times with no problems so far. Makes a trickling fountain noise which I like. I highly recommend this item.
We threw out so many fountains before this one... August 17, 2010 Y. East (KY) After throwing out several fountains because they would leak, or they would get stopped up, or they just didnt work. We decided to try this one. I am so glad we did! It lasts a long time in between changes, I dont have to scrub it and put it in the dishwasher like the others. The only water that gets on the floor is from the dogs mouth when he's in a hurry. The only complaint I have is its really heavy when its full. I have to get my husband to help me with it sometimes. I still think its worth it though. Our cats even like it,when the dog will share it. I'm looking for one just for them now.
Jolene August 16, 2010 Jolene R. Williams (Germany) This water fountain works great!! I have a great dane and a pug, and they both love it!! Easy to fill, not too messy, I am really glad I bought it.
Great for chewers and problem dogs- A life saver! August 16, 2010 RivetChic (Los Angeles, CA) I've owned a few dog water fountains and dispensers, and so far this seems like the BEST one. I was nervous to buy it because of some of the reviews, but let me tell you that it is a lifesaver.
After my dog chewed up the spout, filter housing and filters on the Drinkwell Big-Dog Pet Fountain, she splashed all of the water out onto the floor with her paws, emptying the reservoir's water onto my kitchen floor and then unplugged it and finished dismantling it. By the time I arrived home from work, the water on the floor had seeped under the cabinets into the dining area and ruined my laminate wood flooring. This could have happened with any refilling water bowl, and I don't blame the manufacturer, but it meant the end of the Drink Well fountain for my household. We put water bowl and dispensers outside, but she continued to splash the water out with her paws when we were at work. I couldn't afford any more damage to my home, or to risk the dogs going without water all day because of her 'playing'. We researched for a week- we found solutions for dogs who overturn or chew their bowls, but nothing for 'splashers'. My other dog prefers running water, so I continued looking at fountains. I found the Dog It fountain and wondered if it could work. We ended up deciding to give it a try.
The design seems nearly dog proof as far as I can tell. The filters are completely hidden and internal, underneath the big 'bubble' water reservoir. The water 'hole' or opening at the top of the blue bubble shaped reservoir is high off of the ground and difficult to reach with playful paws, and the perfect height for large dogs. There is a plastic lip around the edge to keep water from splashing out of the 'hole' or opening at the top. The water bubbles at the top, then flows out under the plastic lip on one side and 'waterfalls' down the bubble design into the bowl below. The space between the bowl and the 'bubble' is small, maybe less than an inch, so the puppy can't fit her paws down in there to splash. The dogs can drink from the opening at the top, or lick the waterfall water off of the bubble.
It seems like it would be nearly impossible for the dogs to disassemble it the way they did the big dog fountain. Contrary to other reviews that I read, the fountain seems very durable, made of heavy weight plastic. Even if the dogs did try to chew it, since it's round in design, there isn't much to chew except the plastic lip around the top, but so far they haven't even thought of that. So far this has been a solution for our 'problem' pup. It seems slightly louder than the other fountain I had, but I think it's that the water sound is quieter so you hear more of the pump hum. It is probably as loud as a fish tank. It is easy to assemble, and I find that the design not only keeps the dogs from destroying it and my house, but reduces splash from regular drinking. My floors have never been dryer, and I have peace of mind that the dogs have clean, fresh water, and that the water will stay where it belongs- in the fountain.
I definitely recommend this fountain to everyone who has a large dog.
Too fragile - if you're finding puddles, it's probably cracked June 26, 2010 J. Glisson (Atlanta, GA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We have three Labs, and this sounded like a great idea.
But it isn't sturdy enough. We kept finding a big puddle under the unit, and I finally took it apart and discovered an almost invisible hairline crack running all the way down one side of the base unit.
We returned it with no problem. But it needed to be cleaned fairly often, and it was difficult to adjust the upper part of the unit so that you got good water flow over the surface of the dome. So it really was more hassle than it was worth, we didn't replace it.
