Don't purchase thjis machine August 29, 2010 Geraldine Natins (Richfield, MN USA) I question this companies ability to engineer this machine. We have had to return ours seven (7) times for service. Twice we recieved back machines that didn't work at all - so I also question their quality control in their service/warrany area. They tried to fix our orginal one multiple times, before sending us a remanufactured machine, which also broken down several times. Finally after complaining to the New Jersey Better Business Bureau, the company sent us a brand new one, but now that one is back in the shop. When the machine throws an Error Code, their customer service department has never been successful in walking us through how to clear the code, so you have to ship it back to them - your machine will be gone for at LEAST one month. So make sure you do what we didn't - buy your machine from a vendor that will give you 'loaners' while yours is at the shop. In addition to the error code issues, we had a water line blow on our 1st machine - water all over the counter top. The other issue we had (twice - as they returned us a machine without correcting the problem - I sent them a MS Powerpoint Presentation showing them the issues) the machine was leaking muddy coffee all over my countertop. It was was trying to eject mud into the cake drawer. I showed them a beaker which showed that I was not gett my 4 ounces into my mug, but into the cookie tray I had to place under the machine to protect my countertop from getting stains. When this machine does make a cup of coffee, it is great coffee - the problem is that seems to be a rare occassion at my house. My opinion - buy another brand altogheter and GOOD LUCK!
Flawed, flawed Product August 5, 2010 L. D. Lindberg (Seattle) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this machine about a 2 years ago. We are hugely disappointed.
We paid close $980 -this was before these were marked down.
Here's the fatal flaw- not mentioned anywhere until the machine breaks, and you attempt to have Krups honor the warranty and fix it:
This "Premium" product - that is how Krups describes it - cannot process oily, dark roast or espresso roast beans. They "gum up" the insides. Now, Krups doesn't disclose this fact in the marketing, packaging or manual in a clear fashion. How did we find this out? We shipped it to Krups to have it fixed. For the third time. This is after trying to work with a bad authorized repair outlet (the only one Krups will allow you to take it to in Western Washington) 3 times. Yep, 3 times.
So we then contact Krups, and they reluctantly agree to try and fix the product- it's still under warranty. So we haul it to UPS and ship it out.. only to receive it about 3 weeks later... broken. Faceplate cracked. And, taped to the top, a nice, little hand written note:
"don't use oily beans. It break this really fast"
Nice. And, our calls to Krups are fielded by Tom - one of the rudest customer service agents I have EVER dealt with. So, we'll ship this back again, and again, and again .... but we'll NEVER buy another Krups product again. Not only are they poorly designed, but Krups doesn't stand behind their products, and treats their customers badly. So baldy it's sinful they are even allowed to sell on AMZN, who nails customer service EVERY time. BOO!
SO, DON'T BUY THIS!
Unbelievably poor product AND service! August 5, 2010 GRRR! I'm reliving my nightmare reading all the other poor reviews preceding my own.
1. We've owned it for 21 months and it's been in a state of disrepair since month 10.
2. It continually clogs up and leaks water and coffee ground all over the table.
3. We've shipped it to the local repair shop (1 hour drive both ways) three times
4. We've shipped it back to KRUPS once and are shipping it again.
5. Customer service is disappointingly unresponsive, implying they've gone outside policy repairing a unit past the one year warranty (despite its never worked much longer than a month past repair since month ten)
RUN AWAY DO NOT BUY FROM KRUPS.
Bad design August 4, 2010 Dietmar Schlei (Hudson, Wisconsin, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a unit for about six month. Actually, I have a second unit, because the first one broke after 2 weeks (water running out of it). After another month the replacement unit stopped working and needed to be send in for service. After 4 weeks it came back and worked fine for bout two weeks, and stopped working again. Krups customer service wants it to be shipped in for service again, which means, another four weeks without a coffee maker.
I plan to bring the unit back to the store and buy a Saeco machine instead!
I cannot recommend this unit to anybody!
Bad machine and worse service July 22, 2010 P. Lukaszuk (Seattle, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The machine made decent coffee for about 2 years. After a certain period Krups espresso machines require mandatory service and will stop working. I sent my working machine to Krups which had technically nothing wrong with it to service center in Downers Grove, Illinois. I was charged $220 for the service but the machine arrived not working. After contacting Krups again I found out that that the service center is now out of business. I sent it again to a another service center in California where I was told my machine still needs cleaning and is actually broken. Another atempted to extort $268. Peter at the Krups customer (dis)service rudely brushed me off. The lame 1 year warranty expired and now it's not their problem. I expected a quality machine and service from Krups. I was wrong.
