1 out of 5 stars Beautiful coffee maker...terrible reliability!   May 25, 2010

I bought this coffee maker in early May, 2010 after my Cuisinart CBC series coffee maker finally started functioning irregularly after 7 years of daily use. I wasn't using the programming function of that coffee maker too much and honestly, despite its reliability, the Cuisinart is rather plain, especially compared to this DeLonghi model that I'd been hearing and reading about.

Well, one of our local big box stores (with a great return policy) had these for a fraction of what Amazon charges so I decided to go for it. It worked great up until today and then it just stopped brewing mysteriously. The left side of the machine that holds the water wouldn't process and transfer it over to the right side where the coffee resides. I'm not really clear what the issue was, but when I finally tried to push the reset button, the button got stuck inside the machine! Great. I dislodged the button and returned it back to its original position, but as far as I could tell, pushing it didn't have any effect. Even after a thorough cleaning, it still wouldn't work. I'm mulling over what to do next...it's easy to return but if I buy another one, will the same situation develop?

Perhaps, it's just extremely delicate...at any rate, a far different experience from the workhorse production I got from the Cuisinart. It really is a shame as it's the most attractive counter top appliance in the kitchen.

5 out of 5 stars Good Coffee, Easy to use   March 9, 2010

We just ordered this coffee pot and I made the first pot and had to come here and write a review. I LOVE the coffee. It's strong and most importantly not bitter.

The look of it is very sleek and simple. It doesn't have a timer but it brews a pot in 6 minutes so you don't really need it. The glass carafe is very well made.

Don't touch the top of the coffee maker once it's been brewing, it's VERY hot.

I also love the metal scoop that comes with the coffee maker. It makes it very easy to make a good pot of coffee.

We did not buy ours from amazon, instead we bought locally. this will make it easier to return if it quits working like everyone says it will.

I'll come back and update after we've had it for awhile.

5 out of 5 stars DeLonghi Hits Another Home Run!   March 6, 2010

The DeLonghi DCM900 is both stylish and functional. As a bonafide 'coffee geek', I have used numerous machines. After 3 other espresso makers, I stopped at the DeLonghi...and now, with this coffee maker, the quest for a great cup of daily brew may have come to an end.

The 'shower head' provides an even flowing rush of water onto the grounds to give you a quick, full-flavored brew every time.

I still have a fantastic Cuisinart with several bells and whistles, but my wife drinks decaf while I prefer regular. I roast my own beans, and can definitely taste a difference between this pot and an off-the-shelf model from the local discount store.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Coffeemaker and Conversation Piece   June 24, 2009

Bought this for my desk at work. It brews coffee very fast and doesn't burn it while in the pot like other makers seem too.
The styling gets a comment (nearly all positive) from any one who sees it.

I do like this coffee maker alot. I have been a multiple Krups owner. The last coffee maker I owned was a DeLonghi which was bought at Target. It had more options and was less money. I don't think it lasted even a year before it started to turn off before the pot of coffee was done brewing, or would not turn itself off after 2 hours. I wanted to buy The DCM900 before I had bought the one from Target but could not get myself to spent the extra dough to get it. The one from Target was 50$ and became a fire hazard I thought. So after looking back at the DCM900 on Amazon I found one in my price range. Yeah it is alot of money for a coffee maker that is not loaded with tons of options, but the style and performance are great. It is kind of kool when people come by and they say wow nice coffee maker. No I can't program it to make my coffee before I wake up, and it does not grind my beans for me, but how many people are willing to to say to themselves am I crazy for paying that much for a coffee maker and do it?
