5 out of 5 stars Excellent value   August 31, 2010
Howards Amazon Reviews
This dehumidifier is an excellent value. All dehumidifiers make a little noise. They are small air conditioning units in a way, and they have a blower to circulate the air. Since those are confined to a small space, and move a bit of air, and have a compressor, you will hear some noise. And simply by the nature of carrying 6.25 gallons of water in a tank to empty it, it will be a bit awkward. But neither of these things keep me from rating this with 5-stars. It does its job very well, is rather quiet, and thanks to an ingenious tank slide-out, and carry handle, emptying the tank is a piece of cake. And boy, does this thing dehumidify! First two days it sucked a total of 6 tankfuls of water out of our basement air. That's over 36 gallons of water. Lowered the humidity from almost 70% to just over 50%, that's on continuous run. Now we've got it set to 60% and we'll see how that works. Love this unit. Hadn't bought a dehumidifier in over 20 years, so was skeptical that with today's cheap manufacturing standards, we would have a hard time finding a decent unit. Not so. This Frigidaire deserves the exceptional ratings it has received to date, and we are completely satisfied with our purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Works great, but expect some heat.   August 30, 2010
Jeremy Scott (Syracuse, NY)
I recently purchased a raised ranch house with a finished basement in upstate NY, and noticed on a humid or rainy day, the basement would start to smell and feel damp. There was visually no water anywhere in the basement, but it was pretty humid. After a lot of research, I purchased this dehumidifier in hopes that it would removed that damp mildew smell. The basement is around 900 sq ft, finished with carpet except in a utility closet where my sump pump, water heater, etc, are. Based on some reviews, and some help from frigidaire's customer service, I went with this 50 pt model. I almost went with a Soleus, but noticed they have some problems down the road.

I received the unit in 2 days (kudos to Amazon prime), set it up for continous run mode, and fired it up. Within 3 hours, the container was already full. Amazing. Over the next 2 days, I left the unit running 24/7, and easily had to empty it 2-3 times a day. It made a huge obvious change in the humidity, and the mildew smell was gone almost instantly. This thing can really pull some water. I recently set it up to maintain a humidity level of 50, and it seems to only run about half the time.

The only things that I DON'T like about it are the heat it gives off, and the noise level. My basement (again, about 900 sq ft give or take) heated up about 8 degrees when it was running in continuous mode over 2 days. I was a little bummed about it, since my basement has been the place to go to cool off on a hot day. I'll have to see how it does when not running it all the time. Also, it's kind of louder than I was hoping for. It's comparable to my 12,000 BTU air conditioner with the a/c on high. To resolve these issues, I'm going to try placing it in a different area, and setting it up on a timer to run during the times we don't use the basement.

All in all this is a great unit. It's easy to use, does the job well, and works as advertised. I'm very happy with it. I think if I were to do it all over again, I would go with a smaller model. I think it's a little overkill for the size of my basement. As far as longevity, I'll have to write another review in a year, but I've owned several frigidaire products with no issues.

I would give it 4 1/2 stars, but since amazon doesn't allow it, I'll give it 4 stars. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn close. If you need a dehumidifier for a medium sized basement, I highly recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars Frigidare Dehumidifier is Great !   August 30, 2010
JLD (Cleveland,OH,USA)
My dehumidifier started to give me problems after about 5 years of service. After reading through many reviews on Amazon, I decided to purchase the Frigidare 50 pint dehumidifier from Amazon. I read about how it was noisy and how the water container was hard to remove. I can honestly say that after a month of useage, I love this unit. It is so quiet that instead of opening the basement door to hear if it is running, I have to go downstairs and look. The water container is easy for me to remove, just give a little tug on the two openings on the ends and slide it out. I was very pleased with the amount of water that it removes from the air. I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants a great dehumidifier for a decent price.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product, Highly Recommended   August 29, 2010

We bought this about 2 weeks ago for our new home. I have to say, I was a bit suspect that it would actually work as well as advertised, but, within a day there was a noticable difference in the humidity level in our basement! We're still taking about 4 gallons of water a day out of our basement, and are looking forward to being able to use the dehumidifier on the timed setting soon.

If you need to dehumidify your home, this is the unit that you want!

1 out of 5 stars Worthless Warranty   August 27, 2010
KDUB
I purchased one last year that lost refrigeration after 13 months. According to my warranty all enclosed refrigeration parts were under warranty for 5 years. When I called they said that they have changed their warranty terms and they no longer do any repairs on humidifiers. They first offered me %10 off of the price of a new one and eventually raised that to %20. I declined, why would I purchase a machine that they will not repair?

An Internet search of other Frigidaire products revealed that there are many quality complaints about this company and they are not responsive.
