5 out of 5 stars excellent!   August 27, 2010

I'm *very* surprised to see a one-star review.

I shopped high and low for a cabinet with doors that store media and couldn't find another for less than $500.

I had already purchased something similar from Homelife Furnishings and *that* one was the worst piece of furniture ever made (none of the hardware fit in the right spot etc. And it was wobbly to the point of falling apart and tightening bolts turned the particle board it was made from into sawdust).

In comparison, this item was very high quality wood/wood veneer, the black paint was rich and dark, and all the joints and pieces fit together very smoothly. It is a very beautiful addition to the living room and tucks a fairly large number of DVDs (especially for its compact size) neatly away from view.

4 out of 5 stars Overall, a good buy   April 17, 2010

I spent a fair amount of time looking for a CD storage cabinet. I had two criteria: 1) maximum capacity 2) sturdy construction (no fake wood/particleboard/wire, etc). I bought this Leslie Dames model in black. It holds 612 CDs (it can also hold DVDs depending on how you space the included shelves). It is solid oak with thick metal hinges on the doors; it does flex slightly if you push or pull on the corners, but this is very minor. It also has magnets to keep the doors shut.

There is no construction involved. The entire cabinet arrives in one piece; all you do is put the plastic pegs in the pre-drilled holes and then put the shelves on them. The shipping weight is 31 kilograms (68 pounds).

The neutral style makes it blend well with most furniture. Be aware, however, that the finish is much glossier than it appears in online pictures.

A few quibbles: there were a few places where the finish was slightly chipped, but nothing that couldn't be fixed by using a black permanent marker. The holes and joints inside the cabinet were often rough (small splinters of wood sticking up); this roughness did not occur on the outside of the cabinet. There was some black dust on the inside, which I wiped off with a damp cloth.

Overall, this is the best value for money that I've found for media storage. It's a solidly made, high capacity cabinet that is all wood, even the shelves.

4 out of 5 stars The kind of thing you need if you own a lot of DVDs   October 12, 2009
Klaus Steden (Los Angeles)
I was skeptical of this at first, but am quite satisfied with it. The one persistent complaint I've had about media cabinets in the past is that they promise to fit X number of CDs, DVDs, or whatever -- but what you don't get told is that the dimensions of the cabinet will force you to waste space -- something that drives me nuts. This doesn't have room for any wasted space. All of my DVDs, even with oddball tins and bizarre packaging, all fit nicely and neatly inside. The unit's sturdy, steady, and compact. Turns out I have more stuff than will fit just one, too, so I'm going to buy another.

1 out of 5 stars Overpriced cabinet for the money   July 21, 2009

The DVD cabinet we received was of *extremely* low quality. There was excess glue visible on many of the joints, the paint was so thin in some areas that you could see the underlying wood and, worst of all, the two doors were not mounted at the same height (one is about half an inch too low such that it scrapes against the bottom when you open it).

Given the many defects in workmanship, it is clear that this unit is not worth the $269.95 that we paid for it.

So, we contacted SpinKeeper to arrange an exchange. Although they quickly provided an RMA, they wanted to charge us a $40.39 restocking fee (20 % of unit price!) *and* $68.00 for the original shipping cost. Thus, we would lose $108.39 if we exchanged the unit. Needless to say, we did not agree to these outrageous terms.

Our recommendation to potential SpinKeeper customers is to shop elsewhere. SpinKeeper sells low quality merchandise, charges you a lot of money for it, and then forces you to pay even more in the event that you ask for an exchange. You can do better....

5 out of 5 stars BEST HIGH-CAPACITY CD STORAGE EVER   July 15, 2009

This product is beautiful (a requirement since I'm picky about my furniture) and its clean mission style fits in beautifully in my modern living room. If your significant other is ultra-picky about furniture and you want your DVDs or CDs to be allowed into their "perfect" living room, this cabinet is PERFECT for you! It's wonderfully made and was FANTASTICALLY packed to ensure no nicks or dings in the wood. Plus it ships to you already assembled!

For the price and the quality, this was the best solution for our collection of 500+ CDs. It left us with room to expand too. I can't stress how perfect this cabinet is.
