4 out of 5 stars Be patient!   July 7, 2010

There were at least 2 or 3 times in the 8 HOURS it took me to construct this shelving unit that I wanted to do it some irreparable harm. Many times I had to fight my urge to climb on the roof of my house and pitch it into oncoming traffic. But I'm glad I didnt. This is an attractive shelving unit. It is all it promises to be: handsome, sturdy and incredibly useful. Just be prepared to suffer in order to get it put together. Granted I am the Captain Joseph Hazelwood of putting things together but does it really need so many damn pieces?

4 out of 5 stars Great item, but a pain to set up.   January 5, 2010

Before I talk about this, I want to let everyone know that I bought this at Best Buy and it was an open box item so the price was much less than the regular price. (I paid $109 and the item regularly costs $155)

That being said, I started putting this item together, only to take it apart several times because I put the wrong side of the lumber in front. What made things MUCH worse was that when we finally put everything together, we tried to lay down the whole cabinet to put on the back covering, and when we did that, the things that hold certain parts of the boards together (the white plastic things that you screw the black screws into) completely ripped off of the board. So we had to superglue them back on, and after all of that hassle, we were finally able to put everything together and luckily everything stayed in one piece.

So even though this was a PAIN to put together, it was still worth it in the end cause the shelf looks REALLY nice now and I was able to customize all my shelves to put all my DVD's/Videos/CD's/Games in.

I would give this a 5 but I can't just because of how unstable the parts really are when you put them together. At least they have no problems holding up whatsoever when the cabinet is done putting together.

    1 out of 5 stars A perfectly awful experience   December 15, 2009

This is cheap particle board wood--thin and brittle-- barely rugged enough to hold a large amount of DVD's. The assembly instructions are unclear and confusing and my attempt to assemble was a total disaster. I have complained to AMAZON and contacted the seller to return.

4 out of 5 stars Meets our needs   December 2, 2009

We purchased two of these for our very large DVD collection (we ended up getting a third, since two wasn't enough.) Definitely heed the advice to place the boards under the middle and top when nailing the backing on. I misread it, and we didn't brace the middle section and it came completely apart. Luckily nothing cracked, and we were able to put it back together without any problems. The third one arrived with one of the boards missing the pre-drilled holes. We didn't realize this until we started screwing in the screws, so we ended up with some minor cracking on the one side. We then drilled holes ourselves, rather than wait for a replacement piece to arrive.

Overall I'm fairly happy with it. I expected the quality level to be a little higher, but I guess there's only so much you get with furniture you have to assemble. They definitely hold a lot of DVDs, and I do like how little floor space they take up.

1 out of 5 stars Cheap and flimsy   November 28, 2009

We bought two. Took the first one out and put it together, only to have it break in two upon standing it up. They should have used screws or nails or something to keep the two portions secured in the middle.
